Welsh take titles
Ryan Jenkins and Naomi Owen were Welsh successes at the illustrious Munster Open which was played in Kilarny, Ireland on 22nd January 2011.
Ryan and Naomi teamed up to win the mixed doubles final 3-2 with Ryan partnering Gavin Maguire of Dublin to win the men’s doubles against Slevin/Murphy 3-0.
Naomi teamed up with Sarah Timlin but just lost out in their doubles final.
Naomi wiped the floor with all her opponents to win the ladies crown. The final was against Ashley Givan 3-1 while Ryan had it a little tougher.
There was a Spanish warrior to contend with in the men’s final in Orio. Orio of Granada forced his way past Irish legend Slevin (3-1) before storming to the first end in the final. Ryan levelled at 1-1, then led 2-1, but Orio fought back to save matchpoints for a 2-2 deadlock.
Ryan played the better TT in the 5th and won the 1000 Euro first prize winnings and made it a triple in Kilarny.
Ryan Owen was also on show and made it to the band 1 semi finals where he lost to Cardiff based Ryan Flood. Flood went on to win the event.
