The Greenhouse Wales Christmas Tournament took place last night at Tonyrefail Comprehensive with over 50 players in attendance in what was a fantastic evening. TTK players from Ferndale, Tonyrefail and Tonypandy were joined by associated club Nantymoel in a jam packed tournament.
The first event of the evening was the open event and with top welsh juniors on display the quality and standard of play was really impressive. Greenhouse Welsh Internationals Nicole Hall, Keiran Tann, Alex Prosser, Conor Edwards, Carys Webster and Jared Parsons all progressed safely into the knockout stages. At the last 16 stage number 4 seed Nicole Hall fell to hands of Ethan Lewis whilst all other matches went to seeding. The quarters saw Nantymoel's Gywn Carvill beat Keiran Tann to set up a semi final against Jared Parsons whilst in the other half Conor Edwards and Alex Prosser both Progressed beating Ethan Lewis and Chris Griffiths respectively. The semi final's saw the end of Carvill and Prosser as they lost out to the in form Parsons and Edwards. In a great final which went the distance it was Edwards who held his nerve taking it 13-11 in the decider. Great Match!!
The next event on show was a tournament put together for the new year 7s/begginers/primary School players. With 40 entries alone in this event it was really pleasing to see so many new faces from the 3 Greenhouse projects enjoying competitive play. Both Caitlin Williams and Jac Jenkins lived up to their seedings reaching the final stage. On route Jenkins beat Tonypandys Liam Hale in the quarters and Ferndale's Dylan Bruford in the semi. Caitlin beat Tonyrefail's Connor Davies in quarters and Tonyrefail's Tyler Wasley in Semis, Tyler however produced the surprise of the event beating number 3 seed Steffan Jones. The final was a great showdown between 2 upcoming stars with on this occasion Caitlin Williams taking the title.
The highlight of the night was the doubles event with names going into the hat to see who they would be partnered with. This was great fun for all involved and drew up some interesting partnerships with players from different schools and abilities combined. (Altough I dont think the Girffiths brothers were too happy to be drawn with eachother!!) Carvill and new year 7 Shaun Nicolas were the surprise package of the tournament going all the way to the final just losing out to Edwards and Logan Evans in a tight match. Conor picked up his 2nd winners title of the night and was awarded with player of the tournament.
