WBL - weekend 2

At the second and concluding weekend of the Women’s british league held in Doncaster there were seven players from Wales taking part. Remarkably, four of these players were from the Denbigh area. In the premier division, Halton TTC who were represented by Fiona Dennett, Angharad and Megan Phillips, finished in third position which was significant progrees from the 2011-12 season when they had to battle to avoid relegation. Both Angharad and Megan had good wins against current Senior Six nations Champion, Alice Loveridge from Guernsey and also against old adversary Chloe Whyte from Ormesby. In division 3 and 4, youngster Kate Roberts highlighted her progress by winning ten of her 17 matches over the two weekends, beating a few higher ranked players in the process. Kath Mitchell-Dawson (nee Banks) represented Halton’s 4th team who as a side found the going tough over both weekends. Meanwhile, in division 3, Clare Flanagan and Julie Furber were the most successful players for Byng Hall B, both winning 11 of their matches and helping their team to a fifth position in the eight team league. However, the most successful Welsh player of the weekend was Sam Meredith who won all ten of her matches in making an invaluable contribution to Fusion Ladies winning the division three title by one point from AICES. Sam’s fighting spirit was evinced by winning five of her matches in the fifth set.
